BIOGRAPHY
As I caught up to Blu Chip on the set of his latest movie, Born Outside, I couldn't help but notice his aura. Full of life and energy, I could feel that he was fully immersed and engaged in the moment. From a distance I watched as he humbly worked to give the director everything he was asking for. He was open to criticism and brought a lot of depth to the character, "Coach K", that he plays in the film. I'll admit I didn't know what to think of the Wilmington born rapper who was featured on Interscope Recording Artist "The Game's" 2 independent albums that sold over 250,000 copies, and who's worked with artist's such as Juvenile, E 40, Ya Boy, Mista Fab, Too Short and Paul Wall. But after getting a chance to watch him work and talk to him, I came away impressed. Here is what he had to say about a few things.
As a veteran in the music business, how has the internet and social media impacted your career?
Thank god for the internet labels gone I been a threat", says Blu Chip, as he breaks out into a rap he performed on a song off his lastest album. "It's been fun finding out new ways to explore the net. Its powerful. It has give me the chance to reach people across the world and connect to them. Sites like Twitter, Facebook, and QME Media allow my fans to follow my career as it happens.
Describe "In the clouds" and the movement associated with it...
Well, "In the clouds" is a term I use when traveling by plane. I decided to use that as a title for my reality show. I hooked up wit Jon Conner to combine forces, something that has never been done in Delaware, and "In The Clouds" resonated with him and it sort of became the symbol for our movement. We make "Cloud Music", which is music for people out grinding hard like we are to reach their dreams. Now everyone is catching on so it feels good.
How did you wind up acting?
I started acting after director Ross Hockrow discovered me while shooting one of my videos and gave me a shot at my first role in the movie "Detox". Then I got a following role in "Born Outside". I fell in love with it. Now I look to act as much as possible and get better at the craft.
Do you see a lot more acting in your future?
Definitely. I can see myself transitioning from the music to film as my career moves along. You can only rap for so long. But, you can act forever.
